Connect with nature in this 1,700-acre outdoor museum of spectacular woodlands, wetlands, and colorful gardens. The Morton Arboretum is the perfect place to walk, hike, see an art exhibit, hear a concert, take a yoga class, capture the beauty of nature on canvas, look for birds, and have some year-round, outdoor fun.

The Arboretum's new Visitor Center houses The Ginkgo Room and Restaurant, overlooking scenic Meadow Lake, and the Arboretum Store, with unique, nature-inspired gifts. While you're here, have lunch, do some shopping and book a narrated tram tour on the Acorn Express. Don't forget to ask about special seasonal exhibits and events, get a map of the grounds and inquire about not-to-be-missed gardens and collections.

The Arboretum is open 365 days a year and there is always something of interest to see or do. Special attractions include the four-acre interactive Children's Garden, the Maze Garden, the Schulenberg Prairie and the Fragrance Garden. Enjoy a free guided walking tour, and participate in a number of free activities each day. We also offer Theatre-Hikes and Twilight Concerts throughout the summer. So pack a picnic (or order one in advance) and head for the trees... the perfect setting for drama, a leisurely stroll or music under the stars.

The Children's Garden is a magical place where children ages two through ten can play and learn at their own pace. Children can enjoy unstructured play or take part in a 'drop in' program to learn about nature. Comprised of two sections, The Backyard Discovery Gardens and Adventure Woods, this garden is engaging, interactive and just plain fun.

Every season has its own beauty so visit the Arboretum often to participate in seasonal activities and observe seasonal beauty. Fall Color Festival runs every weekend in October and includes a 5K Run, hand-dipped taffy apples with a large assortment of toppings, pumpkin decorating, ArborReadings, and performing arts. Wait until you see the colors of our oaks, maples and birches. They really are quite spectacular.

Lisle Station Park Museum

Lisle Station Park Museum provides the opportunity to learn about the heritage and culture of 19th century Northern Illinois. Six structures are located on the museum campus-including a blacksmith shop and an 1880's-era caboose. The museum features a ticket office, waiting room, stationmaster's living quarters, and exhibits tracing Lisle's history since 1832. Free admission. Please call for hours of operation.

Netzley-Yender House
The Netzley-Yender farmhouse, located just west of the Lisle Depot, faithfully reflects the rural life of the 1850 era. The federal style building is open for tours.

Beaubien Tavern
Named after an early settler of Chicago, the Beaubien Tavern has a long and colorful history. Originally built in the 1830's by William Sweet, the building was acquired by Mark Beaubien in 1840. Beaubien utilized the structure as a tavern and from 1851 to 1857, as a toll house for the SW Plank Road. In 1859, Beaubien was forced to sell the tavern for back taxes. In the intervening years, the structure was used for a variety of purposes before being relocated to Lisle Station Park Museum in 1989.

Caboose
The 1882 wooden Caboose is from the old Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad. The Lisle Heritage Society and the Lisle Park District will research the history of this 30-foot, rare, wooden waycar and restore it to its original 1800's look. It was one of only 22 in the series constructed between 1871-1893 and held a table, bunks and a stove for railroad workers.

Jurica Nature Museum

Located in the Birck Hall of Science on the campus of Benedictine University, the Jurica Museum has one of the largest bird collections in the Midwest. Other featured exhibits include a display of animals that lived on an African savanna, a North Woods habitat that features a moose and black bear and a Northern Illinois diorama that features animals that were historically found in Illinois woodlands, prairie and wetlands 200 years ago.

Cantigny Park

Cantigny was the estate of the late Colonel Robert McCormick, former publisher and editor of the Chicago Tribune. The mansion sits amidst 10 acres of formally landscaped gardens. Cantigny encompasses approximately 500 acres of open and wooded land. It is composed of five areas: Visitors Center, Gardens, Robert R. McCormick Museum, First Division Museum, and Cantigny Golf Course.

The First Division Museum is self-guided and uses life-size dioramas, audiovisuals, and traditional exhibits to tell the story of the First Infantry Division of the U. S. Army. The Park, Gardens and Museums are closed in January.

Mayslake Peabody Estate

The Mayslake Peabody Estate is nestled in this beautiful preserve surrounded by wetlands, lakes and ponds, prairies, marsh and savannah as well a replica of the Portiuncula Chapel of St. Francis of Assisi, where ceremonies are held throughout the year. The estate is also home to the 39-room Tudor Revival style mansion Mayslake Hall that is currently open for public tours. Mayslake Hall is an intriguing registered national historic landmark. The history of this incredible estate is a fascinating tale waiting to be told by a corps of volunteers

Journey through time to a place where pioneer through Victorian days live on at Naper Settlement, Chicagoland's only outdoor living history museum accredited by the American Association of Museums. The 13-acre village features more than 30 buildings representing life during the 19th century.
